One of the most incredibly cool Ads, I've seen in a long while.

If only the products were as worth buying as that Ad is good.

At an absurd cost. It's not a bad product, but it's not nearly worth the price. That's why I specified "as worth buying" instead of "as good". The cheapest headphones run $150-$200 and some go over $400. By comparison, far better (or at least comparable) headphones (anything from Sennheiser, for example) cost about ~1/5th the price for the same quality.

Beats are like Singer 911s. They're pretty, stylish, probably fairly well built and a good car, but cost 5x more than they should for the performance you're getting.

the music we listen to is high gloss, very processed. since when were headphones supposed to be function over form? not since freddie mercury (aka all good music) died.

I'd get it if they were the same price, but the fact that they are so insanely marked up proves that advertising works better than design or function. It's not a problem with function over form, it's a problem with hilariously overpriced giffen goods.

Production value goes way up when you're owned by Apple.

A Singer 911 is not supposed to be a super fast Porsche it's supposed to be a turn key masterpiece. But even ignoring all of that, for a comparison between Beats audio products and Singer 911's based purely on high price the Beats gear would have to start at like $1700 and be out of the reach of many.

I was going to compare it to something like a Cadillac Escalade vs a Chevrolet Suburban. But the Escalade only costs 1.5x the price, not 5x. The only cars I could think of that were fundamentally about the same but with some design improvements (aka, good aesthetics and build quality, which Beats arguably do have over most headphones) but at an exponential price, not just a higher trim or options list.

Beats are advertised as "studio" headphones (although now they seem to be promoted as just "high quality", I don't know if they were forced to change their marketing or not) under the assumption that they are high quality for audiophiles. So it would be like people buying Singer 911s because they're supposed to be fast and impressive to your peers.
